The Shelter next to Primark, Marine Drive, Margate, Kent

Silent Cacophony is an event organised by Platform Seven taking place across London and at locations around the world on remembrance day 2013. As one of the artists invited to participate in this high profile project I am developing an event for Margate.

Silent Cacophony explores the silence that is perceived during war and takes its starting point from the Zeppelin and V2 bomb attacks on London during both world wars.

My event will explore the idea of the silent messages of love and luck associated with each stitch when women were knitting for the troops and as written about in war poetry from WW1 and takes place at a location that overlooks the sea where a Zeppelin was brought down on 31st March 1916.

I invite you to take part in this silent knitting event. Each participant will knit the same pattern for Shamrock Lace taken from the archive of WW1 VAD Nurse Clarice SpratlingI will be holding a workshop with KnitterKnitKnitKnit to explain the event and demonstrate how to knit the pattern.

If you are interested in taking part please contact me with your email address and I will send you full details
